RICK HUNTER

As a young boy, Rick Hunter grew up in his dad's flying circus, which is where he learned to fly. At the flying circus he also gets to meet a very good pilot, by the name of Roy Fokker, who would be like a big brother to Rick. Because of Roy, Rick would join the Robotech Defense Force; at first he's a very arrogant young pilot but eventually would grow up and become a great leader and skilled veteran pilot. At the start of the series Rick falls for a young girl, Lynn Minmei; but as time would past, he falls in love with his own commander, Lisa Hayes. This is not apparent early on, since Rick and Lisa fight like cats & dogs, but that slowly changes as they become good friends and then fall in love with each other. As a skilled pilot, Rick would eventually become leader of the "Skull Squadron" after Roy Fokker's death, which is a great loss to Rick. At the end of the first Robotech War, Rick is promoted to Admiral and begins to assemble the Robotech Expeditionary Force, which is to go to Tirol, to meet the Robotech Masters. The day before the launch of the REF, Rick and Lisa get married. Rick and the rest of the REF disappear in the final episodes of the third series.
LISA HAYES

Born in a family with a military background, Lisa Hayes would become a military officer herself. Her first assignment would be as first officer of the SDF-1. Her initial goal in entering the military would not be to follow in her family's footsteps; but as means of joining her fiancée, Carl Riber, on Mars Base Sara. This does not happen as Carl Riber and everybody else at Mars Base Sara would perish in an battle during the Global Civil War. As first officer of the SDF-1, Lisa is Rick Hunter's commanding officer. At the beginning of the series they fight each other like cats and dogs, but at a point in the series on a certain Mars Base, Rick Hunter would save Lisa's life, and she would never forget. As they get to spend some more time together, they come to respect each other and eventually fall in love. Towards the end of the first series Lisa is promoted to captain and is given command of the SDF-2, which is destroyed at the end of the first Robotech war. She is then given command of the SDF-3, which is to carry the REF on a mission to the moon Tirol, home world of the Robotech Masters. The day before the launch of the SDF-3, Rick and Lisa get married.
LYNN MINMEI

Minmei is a beautiful young girl, who is but a resident of Macross Island. She gets tangled up in the first battle with the Zentraedi, but Rick Hunter, who is but a amateur pilot at that time, ends up saving her life. Here on after, Minmei becomes the main love interest of Rick, as they spend some time together; especially when they get trapped in a unknown part of the SDF-1 after it's space fold to Pluto. Minmei quickly becomes a big star, after winning the Miss Macross Contest and leaves Rick to pursue her singing and acting career. After the SDF-1 returns to Earth, Minmei meets up with her cousin Lynn Kyle, who becomes her manager. As Minmei and Kyle start to spend more time together, Kyle would start to fall in love with his own cousin, even wanting to propose marriage to Minmei, but nothing ever happens. On the day of Earth's destruction Minmei sings the song "We Will Win"; with her inspirational singing the Defense Forces counter attack, and there was no doubt that, We Would Win! Soon after, Minmei's career falls apart and tries to come back to Rick for support. But this doesn't work, since at that time, Rick is very much in love with Lisa Hayes. Minmei would end up continuing her singing career with a friend and in "The Sentinels" movie sings at Rick and Lisa's wedding.
ROY FOKKER

As a great pilot in Rick Hunter dad's flying circus, Roy Fokker would eventually enroll himself in the military. During the Global Civil War, Roy would become known as one of the great pilots of this war, having shot down many aircraft. During his time at a military base in the U.S., he would a have the chance to meet Claudia Grant, a new recruit. Roy would always be trying to impress her; but would be unsuccessful, since he's late for dates and is constantly passing his off duty time with other ladies. As the Global Civil War comes to and end, Roy doesn't return to the flying circus but becomes a test pilot for the Robotech Veritech fighter. Roy knows that being a test pilot is very dangerous and needs someone to talk about these things and therefore turns to Claudia for friendship. There friendship eventually grows to love. As the SDF-1 nears completion he becomes leader of Skull Squadron and helps a young amateur pilot, by the name of Rick Hunter to join the military. Seeing that Rick is getting better as time goes by, Roy gives Rick command of his own flight group called Vermillian Squadron. One day as Roy is piloting his Skull-1 in battle, he gets caught in a crossfire and is mortally wounded. Later that night, in Claudia's quarter's, Roy falls to the ground and dies. His death is a great loss to everybody, especially to Claudia who loved him and Rick Hunter who always look up to his "big brother" for advice.
CLAUDIA GRANT

As one of many female recruits at a U.S. military base, Claudia knew that she would catch the eye of some pilot stationed there. And so she did, that pilot's name happened to be Roy Fokker. At the start of their relationship, nothing would work out well, all of which was Roy's fault. He was late for dates and spending too much of his time in the company of other ladies. This all changed one day though, on a rainy night, as Roy tried to explain to Claudia that, he needs someone to talk to about all the pressures in life and he wants that person to be her. And so from that time forward, Claudia & Roy would great friends and later, lovers. Both would become stationed aboard the SDF-1, Roy as a fighter pilot and Claudia as Chief Communications Officer. Aboard the SDF-1, Claudia is Lisa Hayes best friend and is constantly trying to help Lisa sort out her feelings for Rick Hunter. She even once told Lisa about her relationship with Roy, to help her understand that sometimes not all starts off well, but does end well. This of course isn't true since, one day while flying in combat, Roy Fokker is mortally wounded and dies later night in Claudia's quarter's. This loss is very hard to take and results in new drinking habits for her, which would only last for a short while. In the last attack by Khyron on the SDF-1 & SDF-2, Claudia is killed.
HENRY J. GLOVAL

Henry J. Goval is an experienced commander & a veteran of the Global Civil War. At the end of this war, he is given command of a ship, not any ship, an alien space ship, the SDF-1. Because of Gloval's tenacity and experience, the SDF-1 is able to make it back to Earth in one piece after a space fold to Pluto. He is never one to play it safe, and sometimes employs outrageous tactics to protect his ship and it's crew. But he also realizes that continued war with the Zentraedi forces will only lead to ultimate destruction. Therefore, after the SDF-1 return to Earth, Captain Gloval along with Lisa Hayes try to convince the Earth government to start peace negotiations and constantly attempts to relocate the 70,000 civilians aboard the SDF-1. This fails despite Gloval's continued attempts and the Earth is eventually destroyed by the vast Zentraedi armada. After Earth's destruction, he's given complete control of the Robotech Defense Forces and begins construction of the SDF-2 to try and prevent a new war with the Robotech Masters. Captain Gloval is killed and the SDF-1 & SDF-2 destroyed by Khyron's last attack on New Macross City, but saves Lisa Hayes by pushing her into an escape pod.
MAXIMILLIAN "MAX" STERLING

As Lieutenant Rick Hunter accepts promotion, he is assigned two recruits to his newly formed squadron, one of which is Max Sterling. At first, Max seems like a insecure pilot, but to everybody's surprise becomes, without a doubt, the best pilot aboard the SDF-1. He displays phenomenal abilities, great fighting judgment and therefore gets quickly promoted through the ranks upto lieutenant. After the death of Roy Fokker, Max Sterling becomes the closest friend of Rick Hunter and always finds ways to cheer Rick up. Due to his great piloting, Max gets singled out by an ace Zentraedi pilot, Miriya. Miriya and Max have a few one-on-one battles and Max always ends up the winner; because of this, Miriya wants to kill Max to get back the respect of her colleges. Aboard the SDF-1, as a spy, Miriya attempts to kill Max in hand-to-hand combat, but fails. Nevertheless, Max proposes marriage to her and she accepts, therefore becoming the first ever human male to marry a Zentraedi female. Max and Miriya would have one child, a girl, named Dana. After Rick Hunter's promotion to Admiral, Max Sterling assumes command of the famous "Skull Squadron".
MIRIYIA PARINA

A beautiful and skilled female Zentreadi pilot, Miriya Parina is a member of the Quadronos, an elite band of female Zentraedi pilots. An excellent pilot as told by her superior, Azonia, Miriya is undefeated in combat, until she tangles with Max Sterling. Max defeats Miriya at every fight they have between them, so infuriated by her defeats, that Miriya decides to micronize herself and become a spy for the Zentraedi, in order to kill Max Sterling. On her first date with Max, Miriya tries to kill him in hand-to-hand combat, but losses once again. With her self-confidence shattered she asks Max to kill her, but he refuses since she's so beautiful and asks her to marry him. Miriya would fall in love with Max and does marry him; she would also eventually give birth to Dana Sterling, the first Human-Zentraedi child. Since marrying Max, Miriya becomes a veritech fighter pilot and flies side-by-side with Max.
Vanessa Leads, Kim Young & Sammie Porter

Actors: Sandra Snow, Wendee Swan & Deena Morris
Dubbed the "Bridge Bunnies", this trio of bridge officers are inseparable both on and off duty. Vanessa Leads is the Chief Computer Officer, Kim Young is the assistant to the Communication Officer & Sammie Porter is the assistant to Lisa Hayes. The youngest of them, Sammie shows great promise as a talented officer towards the end of the first series. All three of them are assigned to the SDF-2 after it's construction, but are all killed during Khyron's last attack on the SDF-1 & SDF-2.
BEN DIXON

Ben is another young recruit assigned to Rick Hunter's newly formed "Vermillian Squadron" during the SDF-1's voyage back to Earth from Pluto. Ben is an average pilot, but has tremendous courage, determination and loyalty. He's always laughing and keeps the atmosphere around him joyful. While on duty and defending the SDF-1 from one of Khyron's attacks over the Ontario Quadrant, Ben Dixon is killed by the SDF-1's barrier system overload.
LYNN KYLE
Age: 20-22
Actor: Eddie Frierson
Lynn Kyle first arrives aboard the SDF-1, after it's return to Earth. He comes aboard because he told Lynn Minmei's parents that he would watch over her and also to reunite with his parents, who live aboard the ship. Once aboard the ship, Kyle becomes Minmei's manager and also stars in the movie "Small White Dragon" with her because he is a talented actor and a skilled martial artist. Lynn Kyle is a very strong believer in peace with the Zentraedi at any cost and uses the media to express his point of view. After Earth's destruction Kyle becomes discouraged and starts drinking alot. This doesn't fair well with Minmei and so the couple split up and Kyle is never heard from again.
JASON
Jason is Minmei's little troublesome cousin. He only makes brief appearances in the first two episodes, but they are memorable. First we see him, begging Minmei for a cola, then he scares the heck out of her by running in front of Rick's downed veritech in Macross City. But he's mostly remembered for saying: "He's an alien spy!" ( referring to Rick ).
MINMEI'S AUNT & UNCLE
Loyal, working class people, they are the soul reason why Minmei is on Macross Island. After the SDF-1's unexpected space fold to Pluto, and the rebuilding of Macross City within the ship, Minmei's Aunt and Uncle open up one of the most popular restaurants in the city. They also allow Minmei to work for them as a waitress, before her famous signing career begins. Upon the SDF-1's return to Earth they are reunited with their son, Lynn Kyle.
BREETAI

As commander of the first Zentraedi Fleet that locates the SDF-1 on Earth, Breetai is responsible for capturing the space battle fortress. As a skilled and merciless commander, Breetai leads attack after attack on the SDF-1, in order to achieve his gold. Breetai is also the one responsible for capturing Rick Hunter, Lisa Hayes & Ben Dixon and bringing them for interrogation to Commander-in-Chief Dolza. After the interrogation of the humans, Breetai is relieved of duty, since he has failed to capture the SDF-1. However, Breetai is later put back in command of the forces, bent on capturing the SDF-1. Breetai eventually comes to respect and admire Earth's culture and would fight alongside the SDF-1 against Dolza's armada. Breetai becomes a strong supporter of Captain Gloval and helps him capture a Zentraedi Factory Satellite, to be used by Earth's defense forces.
EXEDORE

Exedore is a brilliant Zentraedi analyst, strategist and scientist. As Breetai's assistant, he is constantly giving much needed input into every situation. Exedore is absolutely loyal to Breetai and would become a great supporter of Gloval and SDF-1 crew just as Breetai did. Exedore was the first to realize the potential that the humans posses and is sent by Breetai to warn them of Dolza's final plan to destroy Earth and the human civilization. After the end of the first Robotech War, Exedore helps the REF prepare for it's journey to meet the Robotech Masters on the moon Tirol.
BRON, RICO & KONDA
Three high ranking Zentraedi officers Bron, Rico & Konda are sent aboard the SDF-1 as spies to learn about human culture. As they spend time with the humans, they come to like human culture and they especially love Minmei's singing. Upon their return to Breetai's ship, they start contaminating the other Zentraedi officers with human culture. They do this by showing the officers, human artifacts, telling them about human society and by making them listen to Minmei's singing. The latter would start a small revolution among certain officers, who now wish to live with the humans. During an attack, Bron, Rico, Konda and many other micronized Zentraedi officers, ask and are given asylum by Captain Gloval. After Earth's destruction they become strong supports of the RDF and work as dry cleaners and later as toy salesmen in New Macross City.
DOLZA

Dolza is the Supreme Commander of all the Zentraedi and wants to capture the SDF-1 because he believes it holds a secret that will make the Zentraedi the most powerful race in the galaxy. In the beginning of the series he puts Breetai in charge of capturing the SDF-1; since Breetai is unable to succeed, he relieves him of command and puts Commander Azonia in charge of capturing the battle fortress. Dolza also gets the chance to interrogate the humans that were captured by Breetai and at the end of the interrogation fears that the humans have discovered the secrets of Protoculture. After viewing many battle recordings, Dolza tells Breetai, now back in command, to capture some humans, learn all he can and then to prepare for the destruction of the entire human race. Breetai wouldn't comply with Dolza orders, therefore Dolza brings the entire Zentraedi fleet, a total of 4 million ships into Earth's orbit and destroys most of the planet's surface. However in the counterattack by the SDF-1 and Breetai's fleet, Dolza and the entire Zentraedi fleet are destroyed.
KHYRON

Although one of the best Zentraedi Generals, Khyron is ruthless and merciless often sacrificing his own men for victory or simply killing them, when his orders are disobeyed. When he first appears in the series, he is brought in, to capture the SDF-1 while it's loading supplies on Mars. His attempt fails, but that would only be the beginning for Khyron. He is always disobeying his superiors orders and leads his own attacks on the SDF-1. During the Zentraedi attack of Earth, Khyron would take Dolza's side, however he wasn't killed in the battle; but he and his remaining troops crash on Earth in a battle cruiser. During the reconstruction time on Earth, Khyron still leads attacks to destroy the remaining humans. In one brilliant plan he captures Lynn Minmei & Lynn Kyle and uses them as a trade for the battle fortress. His plan backfires when Rick Hunter rescues both of them. Later on, Khyron ends up stealing Protoculture cells and uses them to power his damaged battle cruiser in South America. Khyron then leads one final attack on the SDF-1 before returning to the Robotech Masters. During his attack his own cruiser is damaged, but he still manages to put the ship on a collision course with the SDF-1. Khyron, his men, the SDF-1 & SDF-2 are all destroyed in this kamikaze attempt.
AZONIA

As commander in the gigantic Zentraedi fleet, Azonia has never failed Commander-in-Chief Dolza. For this reason she is put in command to capture the SDF-1 after Commander Breetai was unable to. Her luck is no better than that of Breetai's, as the SDF-1 slips through Azonia's grasp and returns to Earth. During the Zentraedi attack of Earth, Azonia is loyal to Breetai and helps him fight off Dolza's vast armada. Later on, however she defects to Khyron's side. During Khyron's last attack on the SDF-1, Azonia is killed.
GRAEL
Actor: Richard Epcar
Grael is Khyron's right had man, and the one responsible for making sure everything runs smoothly. Although not very bright, he does get the job done, but when he does make a stupid mistakes, he infuriates Khyron greatly. Grael is there throughout the entire series, up to and until the final battle, when he is killed in the line of duty, before Khyron's kamikaze attempt.
